Moving Averages
Smooth price to identify trends. Crossovers generate bullish/bearish signals.
SMA 20 — Simple Moving Average 20 periods
Smooths the price of the last 20 candles. When price crosses above SMA 20, it may indicate the start of an uptrend. Used for short-term swing trading.
SMA 50 — Simple Moving Average 50 periods
Intermediate trend reference. The SMA 20/50 crossover (Golden Cross or Death Cross) is one of the most used signals by institutional traders.
SMA 200 — Simple Moving Average 200 periods
The most important moving average. Price above SMA 200 = bull market. Below = bear market. Used by funds and institutions.
EMA 20 — Exponential Moving Average 20 periods
Reacts faster than SMA by giving more weight to recent prices. Ideal for scalping and day trading. When price touches and respects EMA 20, it confirms the trend.
EMA 50 — Exponential Moving Average 50 periods
Balance between speed and reliability. The EMA 20/50 crossover generates entry/exit signals. Widely used in 1H to 4H swing trading.
EMA 100 — Exponential Moving Average 100 periods
Dynamic mid-term support/resistance. When price retests EMA 100 and bounces, it's a strong trend continuation signal.
EMA 200 — Exponential Moving Average 200 periods
The most respected EMA. Acts as a 'line of faith' — price above = bullish, below = bearish. Crossover with EMA 50 = Golden/Death Cross.
Overlay / Trend
Indicators overlaid on the chart showing trend, volatility, and support/resistance levels.
BB — Bollinger Bands (20,2)
Measures volatility. Narrow bands (squeeze) = imminent price breakout. Price touching upper band = overbought, lower = oversold. Ideal for detecting breakouts.
Ichimoku — Ichimoku Cloud (9,26,52)
Complete Japanese system: trend, support, resistance, and momentum in a single indicator. Price above the cloud = bullish. Tenkan/Kijun crossover = entry signal.
SAR — Parabolic SAR (0.02, 0.2)
Dots above price = downtrend, below = uptrend. Works as an automatic trailing stop. When dots switch sides, it indicates a trend reversal.
ST — Supertrend (10,3)
ATR-based trend indicator. Green line = uptrend, red = downtrend. Simple and effective — used as a dynamic stop loss.
VWAP — Volume Weighted Average Price
The 'fair' price of the day based on volume. Institutions use VWAP as a benchmark. Price above VWAP = buyers dominate, below = sellers. Essential for day trading.
Elliott — Elliott Waves (auto-detect)
Automatically detects impulse waves (1-2-3-4-5) and corrective waves (A-B-C). Based on price pivots. Helps identify which phase of the cycle the market is in and project targets.
Oscillators
Measure momentum and strength. Identify overbought, oversold, and divergences.
RSI — Relative Strength Index (14)
Measures momentum from 0 to 100. Above 70 = overbought (possible drop), below 30 = oversold (possible rise). RSI vs price divergences anticipate reversals.
MACD — MACD (12,26,9)
MACD line crossing Signal indicates trend change. Rising histogram = increasing momentum. MACD vs price divergence = strong reversal signal.
Stoch — Stochastic (14,3)
Compares current price with the range of the last 14 periods. Above 80 = overbought, below 20 = oversold. %K/%D crossover generates bullish/bearish signals.
ADX — Average Directional Index (14)
Measures trend STRENGTH (not direction). ADX > 25 = strong trend, < 20 = sideways market. Use with +DI/-DI to determine if the trend is bullish or bearish.
CCI — Commodity Channel Index (20)
Oscillates without fixed limits. Above +100 = overbought, below -100 = oversold. Zero crossover indicates trend change. Good for detecting cycles.
%R — Williams Percent Range (14)
Similar to Stochastic but inverted (-100 to 0). Above -20 = overbought, below -80 = oversold. Reacts fast — ideal for precise entry timing.
ATR — Average True Range (14)
Measures pure volatility (not direction). High ATR = volatile market, low = calm. Use to calculate stop loss (e.g. 2x ATR) and position sizing. Essential for risk management.
OBV — On-Balance Volume
Accumulates volume: adds when price rises, subtracts when it falls. OBV rising with sideways price = accumulation (rally coming). OBV falling with sideways price = distribution (drop coming).
